The rise of technology has blurred the boundaries between Asian, European and North American preferences. As a result, the most recent DuPont customer survey to determine automotive color popularity indicates a greater preference for silver, which dominates nearly all of the vehicle types. White metallic remains the color of choice among luxury car buyers, while sport utility vehicle and truck shoppers opt for the traditional white. Black remains a top-five favorite in all categories, while blue — a perennial favorite overseas — continues to dwindle green’s dominance. According to the survey, silver’s popularity can be traced to a growing desire for self-expression. DuPont predicts that high chroma — the intensity of a particular color — will drive the “notice me” trend of yellow hues, stronger reds and lighter blues.
